Artist

Marcela Armas

Born in Mexico City, 1976 and lives in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato.

Armas’ work relates to urban situations, sound actions, installations, development of electromechanical systems, video and documents in order to investigate the capacity of different materials and technologies to produce poetics of social reflection. Armas explores transformation of urban experience, construction of social space and historical memory. Some of her works proposes a thought about waste as a structural support of contemporary society. The mechanisms she has developed are based on an inquiry into the origin and nature of matter composing the works. The meaningful potential of the machine or device; matter as a carrier of history.
