Margo Wolowiec

Born in Metro Detroit, 1985

Margo Wolowiec’s work is derived from digitally found images taken from various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. Via a dye-sublimation ink process, the images are transferred onto thread and hand-woven by the artist into a solid textile. The artist uses fabric dye while weaving on the loom to create patterns that further obscure the abstracted photographs and reference digital gestures from Photoshop. This process of fixation challenges the ephemeral nature of digital culture and renders a permanence upon the images in their articulation. The tangible spaces that are created by Wolowiec allow for a deeper contemplation of our evolving landscapes of immateriality.
