French-Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui dies after Ouagadougou attacks

French-Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui (b. 1982) was injured last week during the Al Qaeda attack in a restaurant in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). She died of her injuries a few days after the attack.

Alaoui’s death was confirmed by French Culture and Communications Minister Fleur Pellerin.  She underwent an  operation over the weekend at a local hospital and was expected to be flown back to France, but she succumbed to her injuries on Monday night after suffering several heart attacks.

Alaoui was in Ouagadougou in working visit to take photographs for Amnesty International.
