My Art Guide Turin 2018 Editorial Committee
My Art Guide Turin is a digital issue dedicated to Artissima art fair and the art week in Turin, available online and on iOS app. This new edition has been developed thanks to an incredible editorial committee formed by Beatrice Merz (Fondazione Merz), Franco Noero (Galleria Franco Noero) and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo).
The committee has been working to select the best and most interesting art spaces and exhibitions in town.
Besides several curatorial experiences, in 1986 Beatrice Merz founded the publishing company Hopefulmonster, specialized in essay writing and monographic catalogues of contemporary art. From 2005 to 2009 she was the President and the Director of Merz Foundation, exhibition centre in Lancia, the restored former thermal plant, in Turin. The project was designed together with her father and aimed to promote the projects of contemporary artists, apart from hosting the collection of Mario Merz’s works. From 2010 tol 2015 she is the director of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. From 2010 to 2015 she is the president of AMACI – Association of Italian Museums of Contemporary Art. She is also the President of the twin Swiss Merz Foundation and of the Mario Merz Prize, the International Prize for Art and Music.
Franco Noero opened Franco Noero Gallery in March 1999 in a space in Via Mazzini 39, Turin. The gallery then moves its premises to Via Giolitti 52 in Turin on September 17th, 2003, in a 100-square-metre open-space. In 2008 Galleria Franco Noero moves into Casa Scaccabarozzi commonly known as the “Slice of Polenta”, a landmark architectural project realized in 1840 by Alessandro Antonelli. The renovated building was partially given over to exhibition space, blending together the historical and the contemporary, the architecture and the experimentation. By 2013, Galleria Franco Noero has moved to its current premises of Via Mottalciata 10/B, in the north side of Turin. The building is a former coachwork shop of the 1950s, with over 600 square metres of exhibition space, renovated by Flavio Albanese of the architectural firm Studio Albanese.
He is member of the Art Gallery Selection Committee of Art Basel since June 2011. In June 2016, Galleria Franco Noero opened a second exhibition space in Turin in Piazza Carignano 2 within an 18th century apartment located in the heart of the city, with over 500 square meters of exhibition space.
Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo is founder and President of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation. After graduating from Economics and Business at the University of Turin, she approached contemporary art as a collector in the early 1990s. The passion for art becomes an organized activity in 1995 when the Foundation Sandretto Re Rebaudengo was created. In 2002, the Foundation inaugurated an exhibition space in Turin, an international center for the study, experimentation and comparison of artists, critics, curators and collectors of all world. Patrizia has roles of great responsibility within the international art system: she is a member of the International Council and Friends of Contemporary Drawing of MoMA in New York, the International Council of the Tate Gallery in London, of the Leadership Council the New Museum of New York, the Advisory Committee for Modern and Contemporary Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Cultural Council of Cartier Art Magazine, the Committee of Administrations of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon of Art Basel Cities, of the CCS Board of Governors of Bard College of New York. She is a member of the Global Private Museum Association. She is honorary partner of the Monaco Project for the Art. Since 2014, she is Chair of the Contemporary Art Foundation Committee. In 2017 she is President of the Cairo Jury. Since 2015 she teaches Theories and Forms of the Art Market at IULM, Free University of Languages and Communication in Milan. She is the author of articles, interviews and essays dedicated to collecting, including The Art Collector of Private Passion and Philantropy, published in Alessia Zorloni’s Art Wealth Management.
