New York – Open Forum is a thought-provoking series of conversations and panels at The Armory Show, featuring leading curators, critics, gallerists, museum directors and art world experts. This year’s Open Forum offers a range of diverse themes and participants, meant to engage and explore a breadth of perspectives and ideas through lively discussion

Open Forum includes four days of talks with the two-day Focus: African Perspectives Symposium curated by Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6. All Open Forum events will take place in the Media Lounge on Pier 94 and are open to the public.

The two-day Focus: African Perspectives Symposium on Saturday and Sunday will examine the diverse practices of artists, curators and collectors from Africa and the Diaspora while also looking back at the individuals who have helped define a generation of artists working today. Kapwani Kiwanga will debut a new lecture-performance piece; Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze and Nengi Omuku will discuss their individual practices and the challenges they encounter as a generation of young global contemporaries with African perspectives. The Focus Symposium will also bring together two of the most influential African artists living and creating today in a discussion with El Anatsui andSam Nhlengethwa, led by the influential curator Bisi Silva.
