Every two years, the European Month of Photography takes place in different cities across Europe including Budapest, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris and Vienna. And this autumn, from September 29th to October 31st, Berlin will turn into a large photographic gallery with historical and contemporary photography exhibitions and events.
The Festival is organised by Kulturprojekte Berlin in collaboration with more than 120 museums, galleries, project spaces, embassies and cultural institutions around the city. The opening will be held from September 29th through October 2nd at the C/O Amerika Haus, one of the most important photo institutions in Berlin.
Each edition of the festival has a different focus. According to the jury, the European Month of Photography 2016 “does not have an overarching theme”, which has “led to a greater diversification of interests culminating in the exploration of personality, private life and the development of personal perspectives and strong individualization.”
There are noticeably fewer examples among the exhibition themes in which contemporary photography is considered to be a political medium, furthermore, photography’s interest in traveling the world and making discoveries in countries near and far seems to have slackened somewhat.
What can we expect from EMOP Berlin then? Curiosity and originality, artistic quality and convincing curatorial ideas.
