Curated by Jane Panetta and Rujeko Hockley, the biennial runs May 17 – Sept 22, 2019 at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibition features 75 artists and collectives which present works in different media, from painting, sculpture, installation, film and video, photography, to performance, and sound.

Among the participating artists: Meriem Bennani, Sam Green, Barbara Hammer, Iman Issa, Caroline Monnet, Laura Ortman, Martine Syms.

The biennial also features a film programme selected by three guest curators; topics range from the world of global Black music, fashion, and visual culture to the discovery of a nine-thousand-year-old skeleton in Washington State.

The Whitney Biennial is the longest-running survey of American art, and has been a hallmark of the Museum since 1932.
