Wang Nanming is the New Director of the Shanghai Himalayas Museum.
Born in 1962, Naming is an independent curator and artist regarded as one of the most influential Chinese contemporary art critics.
A Law student at the Huadong College of Politics and Law (Huadong zhengfa xueyuan) in Shanghai he left the legal profession in 1988 to become an artist.
Since then he has been working to modernize Chinese traditional art practices, also setting up artist residencies and art exhibitions for overseas artists in China.
Nanming has been between 2007 and 2009 the editor-in-chief of the art magazines Art Focus and Art Time; and as a massive contributor to cross disciplinary practices and studies he will implement the Museum’s programming with innovative plans like the “Young Thinker Residency” programme to encourage self-reflexivity amongst a new generation.
