Also known as the "Archive of Live", the museum collects valuable natural and biological pieces

Natural History Museum Basel, Augustinergasse 2, 4051, Basel, Switzerland

The collection of the Natural History Museum of Basel started in the Amersbach cabinet in 1661. For over 300 years, the staff of the museum has researched and collected thousands of valuable biological and natural pieces. Thanks to this constant action of study and research, nowadays the museum counts around 11 million of natural history objects from the fields of zoology, entomology, mineralogy, anthropology, osteology and palaeontology.
Also known for this reason as the “Archive of Life”, the museum carries on in its role of the planet’s stored memory through national and international research projects, scientific publications, guided tours, events and performances open to the public.
