Pinacoteca Ambrosiana

The oldest art institution in Milan

It was founded in 1618 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo. The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana houses a permanent collection of fine paintings, sculptures, etchings and drawings donated by Borromeo himself and a rich number of unique books, including Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Codex Atlanticus.
