M9 – The museum of the 20th Century is a permanent workshop of contemporary life, an innovative experiment illustrating the material history of the 20th century in Italy. It provides a multiform narration of the 20th century, highlighting social, political, cultural and environmental changes as well as presenting the challenges, conquests, threats and opportunities that marked Italian history throughout the last century. The Museum’s permanent collection occupies the first and second floors of the building. With an extensive use of images, audio installations and videos it utilises new technologies to narrate its contents and to encourage user interactivity and immersive visits. Thanks to a programme of temporary exhibitions, a calendar of events for the general public and educational activities for schools, local residents and the vulnerable, M9 acts as an open house for the local area and all Italy, promoting reflection and action on the present and the future.
