Mangroves from the Water

thejamjar, Unit H74, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz 1, Dubai, UAE

“Mangroves from the Water” expresses the delicate balance between nature and human progress. The multi-media exhibition aims to create awareness of the importance of protecting the UAE mangroves.

This exhibition is a touring exhibit, it started at NYU- Abu Dhabi and moved to Sharjah, to Umm Al Quwain and it’s now ending in Dubai at thejamjar.

The “Mangroves from the Water” artists have found the mangroves a source of power, beauty, energy and stories, just as much as they hold vital importance to the UAE ecology. The coastal forests are a safe- haven for a wondrous ecosystem of animal and plant life accounting for around 3000 hectares of coastline space in the UAE. Whilst they feature enormously in the folklore of the coastal people, their importance to Emirati life is being forsaken by urban development, pollution and misuse. The mangroves in highly urbanized areas require protection and attention as a matter of urgency. Art has a power to inform any culture about ideas that matter. The artists believe that through their art they can build awareness of the importance of protecting this important natural ecosystem. The multi gallery project is sponsored by theEnvironment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). The exhibition will be opened by H.E. Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor, Ministry of Presidential Affairs at thejamjar’s new venue in Alserkal Avenue in March.
