Zarina Bhimji: Black Pocket

A mid-career retrospective of Zarina Bhimji, including some of the artist’s seminal works in film, photography and installation

Sharjah Art Foundation, Al Shuwaiheen, Arts Area, Sharjah, UAE

This major survey features a number of the artist’s seminal works in film, photography and installation, which taken together, provide space to think the unnamed and value forms of knowledge that are deeply cultural and emotional. In her practice, the artist aims to raise attention on issues such as the rise of anti-immigration sentiment in Britain of the 1970s, the expulsion of South Asians from post-liberation Uganda, the deployment of racial classification in the maintenance of British colonial rule and the Indian Ocean trade routes that have long connected cultures and continents. The exhibition takes place at Galleries 4, 5 & 6 Al Mureijah Art Spaces.
