Lucio Fontana: On the Threshold

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue

The exhibition is the major survey dedicated in the United States to Lucio Fontana in more than forty years: “On the Threshold” investigates the entire career of the Argentine-Italian Fontana, considered one of the most innovative artists of the twentieth century.

The display includes his most renown pieces, such as elements from the “Cuts” series, symbols of the post-war era, but also his earlier works as a sculptor, such as ceramic objects. Three of Fontana’s environments have also been reconstructed for this exhibition: two are currently on view at The Met Breuer on Floor 3 and Floor 5, and a third opens at The Met Fifth Avenue on January 28 in gallery 913.

“On the Threshold” is on view both at The Met Fifth Avenue and at The Met Breuer until April 14, 2019.
