Art Dubai 2020: Modern Talks

A comprehensive talks’ programme accompanies Art Dubai Modern this year, featuring several international speakers and leading figures in the field of modernist studies. The title “PRETTY MODERN, Conversations About the GOOD, the BAD and the (un) PRETTY“, is inspired by artist Anjolie Ela Menon’s statement about her formative years in Mumbai: “I rejected everything that was going on… all that very pretty stuff that they were doing there, you know maidens with pots on their heads.”

Speakers will unveil and defy narratives linked with the debated topic, embracing the tone of rejection of gender and geographical constraints of Menon’s declaration. A three-day programme of talks convened by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath will discuss the mechanisms responsible for the assembling and spreading of histories and collections of lesser-explored modernisms.
