Manora Field Notes

Tanarte/Spazio Tana, Tanarte/Spazio Tana, Fondamenta de la Tana 2111

Title: “Manora Field Notes”
Curator: Zahra Khan

Artist: Naiza Khan

The inaugural Pavilion of Pakistan at the Biennale Arte 2019 presents the solo exhibition of artist Naiza Khan, titled “Manora Field Notes”. Over the last decade, the artist has documented the conditions of Manora Island, part of a small archipelago off the harbour of Karachi, by traversing its territory on foot. The result of this journey is a varied archive of images, objects and observations which reflect the entangled landscapes she is crossing. The pavilion immerse viewers in the experience of life on Manora Island, highlighting the slow processes of transformation of the region’s history and natural ecology as witnessed and reported by the artist and provide an observation point from which to view similar transformations across the region.

The exhibition is supported by the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan, and organised by Foundation Art Divvy.
