Adelisa Selimbašić
Adelisa Selimbašić (Karlsruhe, 1996) lives and works in Milan. She is an Italian-Bosnian artist, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Selimbašić uses painting to explore and depict the practices of cultural relativism through bodily attitudes. Her works feature indefinite female representations in both ordinary and dreamlike contexts. Through painting, Adelisa seeks a physical presence, almost tactile, achieved by the careful and studied use of chromatics from reality, which, on the canvas, are exaggerated to reach a plasticity that alters the conventional perception of the female body. The compositional and representational decisions she makes serve as a support to shift the intuition of the painted subject from mere identification to a more dynamic and alive aspect: the character.
