Il Mondo Magico, Cecilia Alemani’s Italian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale

Cecilia Alemani, curator of The High Line (NY), has unveiled her project for the Italian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale which opens in May.

The exhibition will be titled “Il Mondo Magico” (The Magic World), and will presents works by Roberto Cuoghi, Giorgio Andreotta Calò and Adelita Husni-Bey, who will produce new works commissioned for the pavilion.

The title takes inspiration from the homonymous book written right after World War II by anthropologist Ernesto de Martino.

The three artists were born in Italy between the 70s and the 80s and have have emerged on the national and international art scene by the new millennium. They are active part of the first generation of Italians raised and educated in a cosmopolitan world. They works and languages are part of a global dialogue even if and when strictly related to the culture of their home country.

The 57th Venice Biennale opens to the public on Saturday the 13th of May, following three days of openings (10 – 12 May).
