Catalonia in Venice 2017_La Venezia che non si vede
“La Venezia che non si vede / Unveiling the Unseen” is created in collaboration with blind or visually impaired people to discover the city of canals using senses with a unique and different approach. Thanks to the exchange of both the experiences of their daily lives, urban forms are unveiled, defining a new map of the public space available to everyone.
The artist, working with digital technologies for social communications, ideates a sound map of Venice usable with the BlindWiki app. People (blind or not) could register impressions of any part of the city creating a network to share experiences, stories and thoughts about all that is not visible.
The project, aiming to seek universal accessibility, consists of various parts:
– the BlindWiki app, created under the direction of Antoni Abad and developed by Matteo Sisti and AKX
– The exhibition space at Cantieri Navali is conceptualized by the Catalan graphic design studio, Avanti-Avanti Studio (who specialize in Design for All), with accessibility criteria for all the visitors
– The documentary produced by Daniele Zoico, with subtitles in Italian and English as well as an audio description, which will be projected in the exhibition space
– The publication of a tactile comic with haut-relief designs by Max in collaboration with the participants who are blind, under the direction of Mery Cuesta, co-curator
– The boat tour guided by blind people, leaving from the exhibition space
– The international seminar, “Cartographies of the Unseen” is coordinated by Mario Ciaramitaro, researcher at the IUAV, and Roc Parés, co-curator of the Catalan project and a researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University
