Organised by Fondazione Sant’Elia / Fondazione Morra/ Palermo Capitale della Cultura 2018, the exhibition presents an accurate and complete look at the path of the Japanese artist, from the first innovative experiments of the ’40s and’ 50s, up to the performances of the last years. If, in fact, the fifties of Shimamoto are all in the East, the 2000s are largely in the West, because it is precisely here that some of the master’s most important artistic performances take place. The dialectic between these two historical moments narrate of a singular, important and unique artistic process. “Shimamoto is a nomad samurai of art”, writes Achille Bonito Oliva.
