Autumn Casey: Balancing Infinity, While Hanging Upside Down. Watching Lovers Fall from Grace, Underneath the Ground

Primary Projects (PRIMARY) is pleased to announce Autumn Casey’s “Balancing Infinity, While Hanging Upside Down. Watching Lovers Fall from Grace, Underneath the Ground” premiering during Miami’s leading international art week. The occasion marks Casey’s second solo exhibition with PRIMARY, and showcases sculptural, installation works, and seventy-eight (78) 2-D collage inspired by A.E. Waite and Pamela Coleman Smith’s 1910 tarot deck, famously known as the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck.

The exhibition title, “Balancing Infinity, While Hanging Upside Down. Watching Lovers Fall from Grace, Underneath the Ground.” alludes to three cards from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck that together capture a tumultuous and untethered period in the artist’s life. Drawn to the simplicity of scenes depicting such strong emotions, the Tarot’s illustrations—in its veiled mysteries and prophecies—served as an important point of departure for this body of work.

Deeply personal, this series of collages pull back the curtain on Casey’s inner narrative and everyday life over a period of three years. Art history textbooks, pages of illustrated Shakespearean books, astronomy, biology and home décor journals, found images and hand drawings served as her raw materials, while much of its subjective content was triggered by the spectrum of turbulent feelings and storylines that came out of her art practice, music with her
band Snakehole, and life as a result thereof.

This collection came out of the downbeat, the noise between the notes,” said Books Bischof, founder of PRIMARY. “We hope these works will be as touching and compelling for our visitors as they are to us. Autumn is one of our gallery’s first represented artists, and to see such detailed and thoughtful work is to be privy to her most lucid thoughts, streams of consciousness and strength as a storyteller,” continue PRIMARY partners Cristina Gonzalez and Typoe Gran.
