For her first solo show with Arcadia Missa, von Zeipel creates a group of sculptures, each one a character: von Zeipel’s figures are narcissistic youths, long-legged depictions of subcultural vitality.
Taking inspiration from classical sculptural tropes and exaggerating them, the sculptures evoke images of museum collections and historical archives but acting as girls: they return the viewer’s gaze, refusing to take the historical role of women in sculpture.
