ConiglioViola. Le notti di Tino di Bagdad

Studio Museo Francesco Messina, Via S. Sisto, 4, 20123 Milano

The artist duo from Turin presents a new transmedia project, which combines technology such as augmented reality with experimental cinematography and traditional forms of art, such as shadow theatre.

Realized for the first time in 2015 in Turin, with the support of TIM, the Castello di Rivoli Contemporary Art Museum, and the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, the public art project this time transforms the city of Milan into a diffused cinema.

The project is inspired by the oriental tales of German poetess Else Lasker-Schüler from 1907. The protagonist of the tales is Tino, princess-poetess from Arabia, who has to give her life to make poetry immortal. ConiglioViola uses twenty-six film episodes, set in small light boxes on the floor. By downloading an application, the visitor is able to see ConiglioViola’s animated figures and motions, realized by filming dance and puppet theatre performances, and editing video clips with digital animation techniques.

The exhibition is being housed at the Studio Museo Francesca Messina, which has been open to the public since 1974. Next to temporary exhibition, the studio museum is home to 80 sculptures and 26 artworks on paper chosen among the most beautiful works made by the Sicilian artist. These works of art were created during the whole career of the artist and testify his great technical ability and his interest for realism.

Next to the studio museum, ten other sites in Milan will feature ConiglioViola’s project, each presenting a different episode of Tino’s story, resulting in a movement of the exhibition around the city.

This project has been produced by Kaninchen-Haus with support from Fondazione Cariplo, and in collaboration with c/o careof (Milan) and Montoro12 (Rome).
