The solo exhibition “Dayanita Singh” presents the recent work of the artist, “Pothi Khana (2018)”, titled after a generic term for an archive room, usually where papers are kept in cloth bundles. Using photography in the expanded field, the work occupies the whole ground floor with tower-like structures, inviting the viewers to sit, study or rest.
From 1 to 5 Octorber, Dayanita Singh will be in residence at the gallery selling a book object in an edition of 360 titled “Box 507”, only available in its exhibition format. In collaboration with the Geoffrey Bawa Trust, “Box 507” contains a display of drawings from the archive. During the residence, the viewers are supposed to acquire the “Box 507” directly off the wall. The exhibition disappears over time as the boxes are sold.
