Arthub is a Shanghai based and Hong Kong registered not-for-profit platform devoted to contemporary art creation and diffusion.
As a transcultural mediator, Arthub orchestrates collaborations between Asian and overseas artists and institutions through the production of exhibitions, publications and educational activities.
In this capacity, Arthub is a proxy, an experiment that aims to connect likeminded local and global creative people, pooling at the same time some degree of authority on the Asian visual art spectrum.
Arthub’s Screening Program is an online platform that provides temporary access to full-length artists’ works, performances, and academic forums, outside of physical exhibiting spaces. The videos are introduced by an interview or text by an Arthub curator or guest contributor addressing the artist(s) and their work(s).
With the presentation of BLAST! Visions & Sounds 2016 this September, Arthub initiated “Exhibition on the Table”, an IRL extension of the screening program launched in 2014. The project hosted by Arthub at CREATER SPACE, defies notions of artistic accessibility—ensuring that viewers are exposed to new media art in a variety of formats. By cooperating with fellow not-for-profits and video artists from across the world, Arthub helps tear down barriers between the community and the exclusionary world of contemporary art.
For the month of November, Arthub presents a multi-part program. Chao Jiaxing, curator and Director of V Art Center, introduces a 3-part compilation with Li Liao, questioning the idea of public and private spaces in relationship to the artist’s performance works. From November 7-24, London-based artist Zhu Xiaowen presents Oriental Silk; the screening addresses issues of material culture and migration with an introduction by Gareth Evans, Film curator of London’s Whitechapel Gallery. For three weeks, launching November 25th, Arthub’s Ryan Nuckolls presents In the Blink of an Eye, a four-artist compilation that builds upon the notion of collectivism shaping individual consciousness.
“Exhibition on the Table” helps create a multi-purpose space, by allowing visitors to engage with the video program by drawing, touching, and experiencing the works in ways in which a traditional white box would never allow. Stop by CREATER today to experience art on all levels.
