Frida Escobedo: Serpentine Pavilion 2018

Architect Frida Escobedo has been commissioned to design the temporary Serpentine Pavilion for the year 2018, in Kensington Gardens.

Escobedo’s project draws inspiration both from the architecture of her home country, Mexico, and British materials and history. The Pavilion presents itself as an enclosed courtyard, composed of two volumes: while courtyards are a common element of Mexican domestic architectures, the axis of the pavilion, which is directed to north, makes reference to Prime Meridian of Greenwhich. Also the materials used for the construction come from both the British and Mexican tradition.
