Guide to the Galaxy

Guide to the Galaxy at Milan based Gloria Maria Gallery focuses on the influence of the digital world on some contemporary artistic practices. The title of the group exhibition, on display until June 30, arises from “The Hitchikers’s Guide to the Galaxy”, a 70s’ science fiction comedy series that inspired the first web open encylopedias.

The show has been conceived by curator Attilia Fattori Franchini as a “guide” to explore questions like perception, reality and internet in the post-digital era. Today digital media have changed the way we communicate, creating a kind of duality between physical and digital, fictional and personal and therefore influencing our understanding of reality.

A selection of international artists put into question this duality by investigating the legacy of the digital world on their production. In their works, visual and textual elements of digital interfaces like layout, audio and content evoke the convergence between digital and physical reality, artistic production and digital vision.
