Hugo Wilson: Panacea

Project B is presents Panacea, the third solo show by Hugo Wilson. On show are ten oils and charcoals, which intend to lead the viewer astray from his habitual and mental schemes by creating parallel realities and a bizarre vocabulary via a number of different sources: old masters, stills from YouTube videos, computer games, canine contests and scientific studies.

The cure, or rather the Panacea, is what Wilson prescribes in order to free the viewer from any form brain categorisation, by de-contextualising and hovering between figuration and abstraction to create works such as Last Supper, Dancers and Damned, whilst remaining true to the composition and structure of the masterpieces they’ve been inspired by.
