Illuminations

Historic Dorissa of Miami Building, 2751 North Miami Avenue, Wynwood Arts District

lluminations, curated by Adriana Herrera, is the first of a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to provoking enlightened dialogues among local and international artist surrounding the James Turrell´s installation, Coconino, 2007, created with the latest LED technology.

This alluring installation, perhaps the closest approximation we have to the spectacle of a sunset, provides its spirit to Illuminations –whose title alludes to Walter Bejamin´s influent book. Paraphrasing him, we reunite art in the age of the most sophisticated artificial light. Illuminations displays multiple ways of inquiries on the implications of the use of electric light in contemporary art.

Miami Biennale is a nonprofit organization that works to establish initiatives in the arts and creates projects that develop and promote interactive platforms for both educational and cultural development. Miami Biennale is committed to education through art.
