Jamian Juliano-Villani: Sincerely, Tony

Massimo De Carlo

30 Mar 201729 Apr 2017

Massimo De Carlo presents the American artist’s first exhibition in Italy. The young artist uses large-scale figurative canvases to compose works in which ambiguous and unsettling elements create a harmonious yet unnerving narrative. His works are populated by cartoonish extroversions of appropriated images and anxious introversions of traces of personal moments.

This spring 2017, Massimo De Carlo brings three exhibitions to Milan to provide an overview of the contemporary painting realm. From the Chinese painter Liu Xiaodong’s depiction of the revenge of human beings against misery (exhibited at the gallery space at Palazzo Belgioioso), to the oneiric creations of Los Angeles based artist Jim Shaw and the worn out and eerie imagery of New York based Jamian Juliano-Villani (both exhibited at the gallery space in via Ventura), the three exhibitions at Massimo De Carlo gallery are a fragmentary yet vital reconnaissance of figuration today.
