Leda Catunda

For her first exhibition at Galpão Fortes Vilaça, Leda Catunda (b. 1961, São Paulo) created a wallpaper, in which the organic forms that are part of her particular artistic vocabulary are transformed in patterns. The prints all over the wall interact with the paintings, collages and engravings displayed in the show, transforming the space in an installation.

In her production, Leda Catunda (1961) explores the properties of the materials and their pre-existing patterns and designs in search of what she calls “the poetics of softness”. Her “soft-paintings” are made upon procedures similar to those of collage: fabrics rich in textures and intense colours are overlain, interwoven, cut and painted.
