Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson are respectively based in Rotterdam and Berlin. The artists have been collaborating since 1997, applying a conceptual and multidisciplinary approach and a contextual and site-related practice. Their works range from the creation of situations and experiential environments, to interventions, sculpture, video and photography.
The project entitled Dein Land Existiert Nicht, on view in the courtyard of the BOX Freiraum exhibition space in Berlin, addresses questions related with the feeling of belonging towards a country or place and the sense of identity deriving from it. The exhibition reflects upon the system of references, such as symbols, traditions and laws, which current society uses to define a country or group’s identity, differentiating it from others.
