Snarkitecture

Palm Court and Paseo Ponti, Palm Court

Snarkitecture’s holiday environment for the Miami Design District, a luxury shopping destination, offers abstracted and exaggerated interpretations of the traditional holiday candy cane form. Situated in Palm Court and Paseo Ponti, each of the four candy canes is approximately thirty feet long and nearly three feet in diameter. The sculptural works were made to scale but measure seventy-five times larger than the standard peppermint stick. Fabricated from fiberglass and foam – a technique borrowed from car and boat manufacturing – the sculptures were produced locally in south Florida. The all-white candy canes are inscribed throughout to replicate the familiar red stripes. The sturdy fabrication enables the installation to also serve as a place of rest and relaxation for Miami Design District visitors and holiday shoppers.
