The Szechwan Tale: China,Theatre and History

FM Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea

12 Apr 201815 Jul 2018

Following the success of The White Hunter/Il Cacciatore Bianco on African Art, FM Centre for Contemporary Art presents The Szechwan Tale, an exhibition with a focus on China, its theatre and history in relationship to the West. The curator of the exhibition, Marco Scotini has selected the works of international and Chinese artists and situated them in a so called meta-theatre (dismantling and reinterpreting the various elements from theatre).
The exhibition is the continuation of a project produced by Scotini for the first edition of the Anren Biennale – Today’s Yesterday (Sichuan), as well as a selection of works from illustrious private collections, ranging from painting, photography, installation, video and documentaries.
The title of the exhibition is a reference to the play by Bertolt Brecht The Good Person of Szechwan (Der gute Mensch von Sezuan) written in 1938-1941, also staged by Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan in 1957-58.
The exhibition is held in collaboration with the Anren Biennial, the Mei Lanfang Archive in Beijing, and the Italian-Chinese Cultural Institute.
