The solo exhibition “If UR Reading This It’s 2 Late: Vol I”, by Tony Cokes, offers a detailed insight into the practice of the US-based artist, gathering pieces from the 1980s up to his newest commissions. For the occasion, Cokes produced two films, one of which specifically related to the musicality of Kodwo Eshun’s Mark Fisher Memorial Lecture, occurred at Goldsmiths University in 2018.
Cokes’ video works intertwine political and social issues with cultural theory, mixing a range fo different inputs such as colour theroy, sound, music and quotes, to report the discriminations suffered by black subjects.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Carpenter Center for Visual Arts, Harvard University and ARGOS centre for audiovisual arts, Brussels, where it will travel in 2020.
