Xu Zhen: Twenty

Police Married Quarters – PMQ

10 Mar 201518 Mar 2015

This solo exhibition from the Twenty series: Under Heaven continues to explore the artist’s concept of “art pieces as commodities”, through multiple platforms incorporating painting, installation and video, to expose cultural assumptions and generate discussion about conventions of creative production.

Xu Zhen (b.1977, China) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Shanghai.
His work often takes the form of provocative sculptures, installations and interventions that confront sociopolitical taboos in contemporary China and freely manipulate western expectations of Chinese art and commerce.
Over his decade’s long career, Xu Zhen has exhibited internationally, at museums and biennales, such as, Venice Biennale (2001, 2005), The Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2004), ICP (2004), Mori Art Museum (2005), PS1 (2006), Tate Liverpool (2007), among others.
Xu Zhen is represented by ShanghART gallery in Shanghai and James Cohan gallery New York.
