Material Art Fair / Feria de Arte Material 2018

Frontón México, De la República 17, Tabacalera

For its milestone fifth edition, Material is moving to the Frontón México, an Art Deco-era sporting arena constructed in 1929 by the architects Teodoro Kinhard and Joaquín Capilla. The fair will present 78 galleries from 18 countries and 33 cities, all within a multi-level temporary structure designed by Mexico City-based architects APRDELESP, in collaboration with Anpasa.

Part of Material’s original mission was to give visibility to a new generation of independent spaces that otherwise might not have had the opportunity. That spirit continues to live on in Material’s Projects section, featuring 25 exhibitors with smaller spaces and bold proposals.

Following up on the success of the first edition of IMMATERIAL — Material’s dedicated performance program, organized by Michelangelo Miccolis — IMMATERIAL VOL. 2 focuses on long-durational dance works by two internationally-acclaimed artists working with expanded notions of choreography: Maria Hassabi and Mårten Spångberg. Both will present works that unfold over the four days of the fair and which invite visitors to come and go as they please.

Lastly, a visit to Material wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Beverly’s pop-up. Returning for their fourth consecutive year, this time the New York art bar will be taking over the locker room at the Frontón México with a group exhibition and plenty of surprises in store.
