The BGL art collective, composed of Jasmin Bilodeau, Sébastien Giguère and Nicolas Laverdière, will be presenting the huge immersive installation Canadassimo at theCanada Pavilion during the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia–, which is being held this year from May 9 to November 22, 2015. Canada has been participating for over sixty years in the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s largest recurring international contemporary art gatherings. Canada’s representation in Venice is presented under the patronage of Marc Mayer, Director of the National Gallery of Canada.
With Canadassimo, BGL is inviting visitors to embark on a surprising journey. The venerable Canada Pavilion, built in 1958 in the Giardini di Castello, has been utterly transformed: a structure of scaffolding expands the exterior, while the inside is filled with a multitude of curious objects.
‘The pleasure of a BGL installation is infectious,’ said National Gallery of Canada Director and CEO, Marc Mayer. ‘Their popularity in Canada has grown consistently over the years and we feel sure that European audiences will enjoy them as much as we do.’
