Sean Lynch will represent Ireland at the 56th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia with the exhibition Adventure Capital, curated by Woodrow Kernohan, Director of EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial, Limerick City.
Sean Lynch is an artist-storyteller who unearths unwritten stories and forgotten histories, stitching together alternative readings of place, events and artefacts. Working in a manner similar to that of a historian or ethnographer, his lens-based and sculptural installations use a contemporary form of the Bardic tradition to create conjunctions between diverse elements and celebrate overlooked aspects of Irish social and cultural heritage.
Recent acclaimed projects include uncovering illicit carvings made by Irish stone-carvers, the O’Shea brothers, in Oxford, UK; exploring socially conservative reactions to modern art in Ireland; working with the fast-food outlet on the site of the first museum in the UK, The Ark in Lambeth, London; and locating repurposed remnants of the infamous DeLorean car factory at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
For Ireland at Venice 2015, Sean Lynch will create a new body of works specifically for the Pavilion that will be located in the Artiglierie of the Arsenale, Venezia. The exhibition will subsequently tour to four acclaimed Irish institutions during 2016.
