Sandra Calvo
Born in Mexico City, 1977 and lives in Mexico City
Sandra Calvo’s body or work emerges from the interdisciplinary space that exists between art, anthropology, urbanism and politics; her artistic language has been constructed through video, photography, and the development of collaborative situations. Her practice is often conceived after conducting research on a specific place and follows methodologies inspired in ethnographic or anthropological ones. Through these complex processes, Calvo problematizes the notions of public space, appropriation, informality, spatial segregation and urbanization, as well as self-teaching and auto-organization as their driving forces. The artist seeks to redefine the structures and actions of a city and how they are interconnected and subjetivized by its inhabitants.
