Vlado Havrilla

Born in Bratislava, 1943 and lives in Bratislava

Vlado Havrilla is an important figure of Slovak alternative visual art, involved in sculpture, painting, drawing, film, computer graphics and writing. He studied sculpture at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. From the beginning of 70ies Havrilla started creating animated sketches and shooting movies – he was intensely focused on film medium for almost a decade. His formal expression is a highly aesthetic variation of the language of archaic civilizations combined with the clichés of comics and reference to great classics of Modern art. 1970- 1984 projects for the design of fountains, Havrilla designed non-standard fountains and closed environments as places for meditation and relaxation. 1978-1981 activities in the field of performance, done in a circle of friend (J. Budaj, P. Bartoš, R. Cyprich, Ľ. Laufová, T. Petřivý, I. Kalný, T. Štraus). 1986-1994 designs ceramics. From the 90ies he started to focus more on computer graphics, 3D modeling and animation and developing his practice towards new spatial potentials. Although he is sculpting dominantly in the virtual world, he has not abandoned the traditional materials and pursues his contemplating about space and time also in reality. 1990-1993 he thought sculpture at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
