Csaba Kis Róka
Born in Székesfehérvár, 1981 and lives in Budapest
Csaba Kis Róka graduated in 2007 at the Painting Department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. Since that he consciously built up his painterly praxis. From the beginning his works reflected on the abjection of the human body and usually depicted various horror-scenes. This features produce an iconic atmosphere which is extremely disturbing and unsettling. The confrontation of classical traditions of painting with taboo-breaking themes involving blood and violence has given ample grounds for appraisal and criticism alike. In the last few years Kis Róka has gradually left behind the traditions of realist painting: the influence of organic abstraction initially identifiable in details only now shows in the whole painting. Instead of the figurative content, the painterly elements are becoming more and more determining in his compositions. He participated at the Liverpool Biennale in 2010. Since then, his work has received continuous international attention.
