My Art Guide Miami 2018 Editorial Committee

My Art Guide Miami is a paper and digital issue dedicated to Art Basel fair and the art week in Miami Beach, available online and on iOS and Android app. This new edition has been developed thanks to an incredible editorial committee formed by Sarah Arison (President of the Arison Arts Foundation), Jennifer Roberts (CEO of Design Miami/) and Dennis Scholl (President and CEO of Art Center/ South Florida).
The committee has been working to select the best and most interesting art spaces and exhibitions in town.

Sarah Arison is President of the Arison Arts Foundation, a private grant-making organisation that supports emerging artists and the institutions that foster them. She was immersed in the arts from a young age by her grandparents, visionary philanthropists Ted and Lin Arison, who founded Arison Arts Foundation, the National YoungArts Foundation, and the New World Symphony, among their many philanthropic endeavors. Arison is active across a broad cross-section of national arts organizations. She is Chair of the Board of the National YoungArts Foundation, where she has developed strategic partnerships with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sotheby’s, Sundance Film Festival and more to provide aspiring talent with presentation and mentorship opportunities. Arison is Vice-Chair of the board of MoMA PS1; a trustee of MoMA and member of the Committee on Education; a trustee of American Ballet Theatre and Chair of the Education Committee; a trustee of Lincoln Center; a trustee of the Brooklyn Museum and Chair of the Education Committee; a trustee of New World Symphony; a member of the Board of Directors of Americans for the Arts; and a trustee of the Americas Foundation of the Serpentine Galleries. Arison has also ventured into film producing, supporting projects that shed light on lesser known aspects of the arts. In 2015, she produced her first feature film, Desert Dancer, starring Freida Pinto. She later went on to co-produce The First Monday in May, a documentary film chronicling the creation of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute blockbuster exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass. She recently co-produced The Price of Everything which was acquired by HBO at the Sundance Film Festival. Arison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and French with a minor in Art History from Emory University.

Jennifer Roberts is the CEO of Design Miami/ and is responsible for the business operations of the fairs both in Miami and Basel. She also oversees the implementation of new marketing strategies and supports the expansion of MCH and Dacra with regional art and design fairs and activations. Roberts sits on the board of Design Miami/.
Prior to Design Miami/, Roberts was the executive director of the Salon Art + Design fair, where she launched the inaugural fair and oversaw various aspects of the exhibition including marketing, PR, and sponsorship. Roberts developed the interior designer tour program and was a member of the selection committee.
Roberts was also the founding publisher of MODERN Magazine, an international design quarterly through which she created the first design publication of its kind catering to high-end collectors, designers, and architects worldwide.
Roberts is an active co-proprietor of the Woodstock Music and Art Festival trademarks. She was a managing member of the company overseeing the licensing initiatives including theater, festival, and merchandising opportunities.
Roberts earned her B.A. in Art History at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and did a post graduate program at Christie’s Education in London.

Dennis Scholl is a collector of contemporary art whose willingness to experiment and encourage artists and curators to push boundaries is well known in the art world. He and his wife Debra have the largest private collection of Aboriginal Australian art in the US. They just completed touring a show drawn from the collection entitled, “No Boundaries: Contemporary Aboriginal Australian Abstract Painting,” to six U.S. museums. They also have a second exhibit focusing on women Aboriginal Australian contemporary artists entitled, “Marking the Infinite”, which is touring to six museums across North America. Over the last 20 years, Scholl created a series of initiatives dedicated to building the contemporary art collections of museums, including the Guggenheim, the Tate Modern and the Pérez Art Museum Miami, which resulted in hundreds of patron-funded art acquisitions. He has served on the boards and executive committees of the Aspen Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; the Pérez Art Museum; and the Linda Pace Foundation. He was named three times to the annual WESTAF list of the Most Powerful and Influential Leaders in the Nonprofit Arts, and along with his wife, Debra, recently received the National Service in the Arts Award from the Anderson Ranch Art Center. He is an eleven-time regional Emmy winner for his work in cultural documentaries, including films about Tracey Emin, Theaster Gates, Wynton Marsalis and Frank Gehry. His first feature documentary “Deep City: The Birth of Miami Sound”, premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival. He recently produced an animated short, “The Sun as a Big Dark Animal”, which was an official selection at the 2015 Sundance International Film Festival. Scholl’s second feature documentary, “Queen of Thursdays”, which he co-wrote and produced with noted Cuban filmmaker Orlando Rojas, had its world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival and was named Best Documentary. He is the co-founder of Betts & Scholl, and Mother Tongue Shiraz, which produce award-winning wines in Australia and France. From 2009 to 2015, Scholl was the Vice President / Arts of the Knight Foundation. He oversaw the foundation’s national arts program, including the Knight Arts Challenge and Random Acts of Culture, with grants to cultural organizations totaling close to $200 million. In 2012, Scholl was named a Harvard University Advanced Leadership Fellow, focusing on the role of culture in community engagement. From 2012 to 2015, Scholl was a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. Previously, Scholl was a practicing attorney and CPA.
