Aiming to engage the public to the city, “Whispering Campaign” is a new sound performance piece by Pope.L which takes place in Athens and Kassel during the full 100-day duration of the documenta 14 exhibitions.

The piece consists of audio infrastructure, speaker-installations, a radio station, and a team of wandering street performers. The work broadcasts whispers in English, German, and Greek around commercial spaces such as parks, parking lots, museums, and public transportation stations.
The content of the whispers includes a variety of original experimental texts written and compiled by Pope.L, such as descriptions of the arrival of strangers to an alien city, randomly generated strings of numbers reminiscent of Cold War listening stations, labyrinthian-geography texts describing collaged architectures from Athens and Kassel, folk songs from the 1930s, and soundscapes. The project engages various oral traditions, mythologies, and conspiracies in an attempt to make oral the political and spiritual ghosts of contemporary Europe.

Dates:
on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays through July 16, 2017 in Athens and through September 17, 2017 in Kassel. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, live performances occur across the cities of Athens and Kassel. On Saturdays, performances take place at designated areas in Athens and Kassel.
