Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Presents Final Show Before Moving to Prague

“Tidalectics” presents nine newly commisioned artworks, together with pieces from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21) collection.

The exhibition highlights processes of cultural adaptation and material change, presenting a framework for understanding the polarities of contemporaneity and history, science and poetics, routes and roots with the oceans and their many and diverse inhabitants.

The title of the show is taken from a play on words by the Barbadian poet Kamau Braithwaite: “…like the movement of the ocean she’s walking on, coming from one continent/continuum, touching another, and then receding (‘reading’) from the island(s) into the perhaps creative chaos of the(ir) future…”

According to their website, the TBA21 Augarten space will close its programming in December 2017.

“This will be the last exhibition for TBA21 in this venue for some time as the foundation is relocating its collection to Prague, following an invitation by the director general of the national gallery, Jiri Fajt, and the National Gallery chief curator, Adam Budak,” says the patron and collector Francesca von Habsburg who founded TBA21.
