Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros – SAPS La Tallera

Calle 3 Picos 29, Polanco V Secc, Miguel Hidalgo

The Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros (SAPS), located in the neighborhood of Polanco in Mexico City, and the Casa Estudio La Tallera David Alfaro Siqueiros (La Tallera) in Cuernavaca, Morelos, were donated to “the people of Mexico” by David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974), along with an important collection of paintings, graphic works, drawings, mural studies and projects, as well as his personal archive and library.

On December 12, 1973, 25 days before he died, he expressed his desire that these spaces wold be preserved to promote his work and ideas, as centers of analysis and experimentation for the “public art” of the future. Since then the SAPS has been promoting and spreading the legacy of Siqueiros. In recent years, the murals at the SAPS were restored and more than 80,000 documents and materials were digitalized.

Former home of David Alfaro Siqueiros, the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros has been a space for the preservation, exhibition, and study of the muralist’s archive and work since 1969. Today, it hosts exhibition and educational projects centered on contemporary art.
