Scuola Piccola Zattere
Palazzo delle Zattere, at Dorsoduro 1401, hosts the public cultural programmes of Scuola Piccola Zattere.
Scuola Piccola Zattere is a non-profit space for continuous education and research in the field of contemporary arts. Its programme include a wide range of activities, including exhibitions, residencies and fellowships, workshops, seminars, discussions, and performative events.
Built in the mid-1800s, the building faces the Fondamenta delle Zattere and the Canale della Giudecca, with a small courtyard at the back near the Rio di Ognissanti. Recently renovated by Fosbury Architecture, the redesign aimed to make the spaces adaptable for a variety of activities. Key updates included new artist studios, the Arena for events, performances, and talks, as well as a restructured entrance that connects the building with the surrounding city. The Ridotto area, located near the entrance, serves as an informal gathering space, supporting educational activities and public engagement. Modular furniture, made from birch wood, allows the spaces to be easily reconfigured for different uses, reinforcing the Scuola’s connection to the local community.
