Goetheanum

Rüttiweg 45, 4143 Dornach, Switzerland

The Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland, serves as the international centre for Anthroposophy and the related arts. Designed by Rudolf Steiner, the original hand-crafted wooden structure was founded in 1913 to provide a research and teaching environment for spiritual science. Following its destruction by arson in 1922, the site was re-established as the home of the General Anthroposophical Society and the School of Spiritual Science, which continues to lead the movement’s global cultural and educational initiatives.

The building functions as a venue for artistic expression, including the performance of Steiner’s four “Mystery Dramas” and Eurythmy, a new art of movement. It acts as the core for eleven specialised sections that conduct research into practical fields such as Waldorf education, biodynamic agriculture, and anthroposophical medicine. Historically and architecturally, the Goetheanum represents the "threefold social organism" and Steiner’s meditative methodology. Today, it remains a dedicated space for spiritual growth, artistic development, and international exchange, housing the "Foundation Stone Meditation" as its shared inner substance. Through the World Goetheanum Association, the institution connects various global partners and members from over 35 countries, maintaining its role as a significant landmark for the study of humanity and the spirit.
