Villa Romana was founded in 1905 by the German painter Max Klinger.
A center of production of contemporary art and international exchange just ten minutes from the center of Florence in the tranquility of a neoclassical villa within a vast park.
The Villa Romana Prize is the oldest German prize awarded to artists. Since 1905, he has been assigned annually to four young artists awarded with a scholarship and with the possibility of residing and working for several months in the Villa Romana artists’ house. Its aim is to allow particularly meritorious young artists the opportunity to dedicate themselves completely to the evolution of their artistic language during their stay in Florence.
