EXMA – Centro Comunale d’Arte e Cultura
Located in Cagliari's historic Villanova district, EXMA – EXhibiting and Moving Arts occupies the former municipal slaughterhouse, built between 1845 and 1852 to a design by Domenico Barabino. Following its closure in 1964, the complex underwent an extensive restoration and was transformed into a contemporary arts centre, opening to the public in 1993. Today, EXMA is one of the city's leading cultural venues, presenting a year-round programme of contemporary art exhibitions, concerts, festivals, performances, talks and educational activities for both children and adults. Its central courtyard, also used as an open-air theatre, and its café have made the venue a lively meeting place where Cagliari's historical heritage and contemporary cultural life come together.
